Job description:
Care workers and home carers attend to the personal needs and comforts of the elderly and
the infirm with care and support needs within residential care
establishments, day care establishments or in their own homes.

 Entry requirements of this job:
There are no formal academic entry requirements. In most cases workers will be required to
register with the appropriate statutory body which involves satisfying the registration criteria.
This would normally include holding or working towards the appropriate qualification for the job.
Entrants must typically be 18 years old and have experience of working in a care environment.
Both off- and on-the-job training is available. A wide range of qualifications including
NVQs/SVQs covering various aspects of care are available. Background checks including a DBS check are required. 

Tasks required by this job include:
assists and enables service users to dress, undress, wash, use the toilet and bathe;
serves meals to service users at table or in bed, and assists with feeding if required;
generally assists with service users overall comfort and well being;
provides interest and activities to stimulate and engage the service user;
helps with daily activities such as letter writing, paying bills, collecting benefits;
undertakes light cleaning and domestic duties including meal preparation as required;
monitors service users conditions by taking temperature, pulse, respiration and weight,
and contributes to record keeping;
liaises with professional staff in carrying out care plans etc.

Job Title: Senior Support Worker/Senior Care Worker
Responsible to: Manager
Salary:  £20,480 Annually 
Hour: 39 hours weekly 

Job Description:

This role requires dedicated and conscientious Senior Care Workers to join our friendly team on a full-time basis. We’re seeking caring and compassionate individuals who enjoy interacting with the elderly and assisting them with their daily living activities. Our senior care workers will routinely oversee and monitor care workers, care assistants and home carers. They will also attend to the personal needs and comfort of the elderly and the infirm with care and support needs of service users within the residential care establishments, day care establishments or in their own homes. 
Candidates must be warm and friendly, with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and a genuine passion for providing service with high quality care and support. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, well-organised, a team leader, manager and multi-tasker and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Proven experience in working with the elderly, in either a paid or voluntary capacity, is desirable for this role. COVID-19 considerations: Full PPE provided.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Routinely oversea and monitor care workers and other supporting staff
  • Taking responsibility for shifts as well as service users whilst on duty
  • Responsibility to emergencies and providing guidance and support to care workers
  • Carrying out spot checks, staff supervisions and covering on call duties
  • Supporting the registered manager with the day-to-day running of the services
  • Ensuring and monitoring health and safety compliance by staff and service users
  • Liaising with local community organisations and maintaining good relationships with stakeholders
  • Preparing reports related to the progress of patients
  • Scheduling, managing and updating the staff roster whilst managing absence and urgent cover requirements
  • Managing budgets and ensuring financial effectiveness of medical care settings
  • Creating care plans and liaising with staff in relation to this
  • Assisting clients with personal care tasks, such as washing, meal preparation, dressing, eating (feeding and serving meals at table or in bed if required), grooming and toileting.
  • Ensuring an enhanced comfort and wellbeing of service users.
  • Providing interest and activities to stimulate and engage service users
  • Assistance with other daily activities such as letter writing, accompany them to appointments, paying bills, collecting benefits when required. More-so, ensuring that the care workers you supervise and oversea comply with the set protocols and plans in place for such.
  • Performing light housekeeping tasks such as dusting, vacuuming and hanging bed clothes
  • Assisting in the safe lifting, transferring, repositioning and movement of clients
  • Training, inducting and onboarding new employees and junior care workers.
  • To provide social support such as talking and listening to people who use our services, helping them maintain contact with family and friends.
  • To report all changes in the health and social circumstances of people who use our services to the Registered Manager as soon as practical.
  • To update other care workers to all changes in policies and company recommendations
  • Receive, transmit, store and retrieve information.
  • To work as part of a team with colleagues and work closely with other agencies and professionals involved in the care of people who use our services, for example District Nurses.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of work teams.
  • To prompt people who use our services to take their medication as identified by the support plan.
  • To attend any training provided by the company and to attend meetings, and reviews regarding the people who use our services as required.
  • Develop one’s own knowledge and practice.

    Qualifications and Skills
    • GCSE or equivalent
    • Basic Care Certificate with 3 years’ work experience  OR Level 3 Health and Social Care NVQ
    • Training in safe patient handling and movement desirable, but not essential
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures]patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
